SYDNEY AMATEUR RADIO FERRY CONTEST 2022

When

06/03/2022
10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Event Type

Sunday March 6th, 2022 10:00am – 2:00pm

Due to the continuing limitations of the pandemic the Waverley Amateur Radio Society (WARS) brings you the modified Ferry Contest in Dry Dock for 2022.

This year the contest will be held in “Dry Dock” mode where contestants are encouraged to get out and about close to our world famous harbour but not to mix freely with others on the ferries. Consequently the scoring had been modified significantly from the usual format. Land lubbers will be able to participate from a home or mobile station with a slightly lower score for each contact whereas the mariners who operate handheld in sight of the harbour will gather more points. Additional points are awarded for simplex contacts as well as those who make contact with VK2FLY who will be operating from his well positioned bridge using the “Whisky” callsign.

The contest has been shortened from the usual 6 hours to two 2 hour “watches” being 10:00 – 12:00 and 12:00 – 14:00 local time. Duplicate contacts are not permitted within a watch, however, the same station may be worked once for each watch.

The object of the contest is to make as many contacts as possible. “Coastal” operation is restricted to VHF and UHF bands using hand held transceivers. Any mode is permissible and contact may be simplex or through a repeater.

This year will see the introduction of the Robinson Crusoe award for the highest score. Other awards will be allocated including the Land Lubber award.
