DESCRIPTION:As the name suggests\, Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) is way for gu
 ides and scouts around the world to meet by communicating over the radio w
 aves\, using amateur radio equipment\, without the organisation and expens
 e of travelling long distances.\n\nThe first JOTA was held in conjunction 
 with 50th Anniversary of Scouting in 1957\, after being devised by scout l
 eader and amateur radio operator Les R Mitchell G3BHK.\n\nEach year over t
 he third full weekend in October\, guides and scouts around the world use 
 the various frequencies allocated to amateur radio operators\, to exchange
  greetings and learn about each other. A international competition is held
  each year to design a JOTA blanket badge\, which is available to all yout
 h members participating in JOTA.
