It is one of the most popular in ternational amateur radio events in existence probably because there are v ery few rules and it is not the usual contest type event. It is also free and there are no prizes for contacting large numbers of other stations.\nT his year (2020) the ILLW event takes place from 10:01am Saturday August 22 till 10am on Monday August 24 (local time - 48 hours).\nThe ILLW came int o being in 1998 as the Scottish Northern Lights Award run by the Ayr Amate ur Radio Group.
