The International Lighthouse Lightship Weekend, ILLW, is a popular worldwide field-day event for amateur radio operators.

CHADARC regularly sets up at the Smoky Cape Lighthouse at Southwest Rocks for the duration of the the full weekend of 48 hours (as measured for the two full days in UTC).

The ILLW usually takes place on the 3rd full weekend in August each year and attracts over 500 lighthouse entries located in over 40 countries. It is one of the most popular international amateur radio events in existence probably because there are very few rules and it is not the usual contest type event. It is also free and there are no prizes for contacting large numbers of other stations.

This year (2020) the ILLW event takes place from 10:01am Saturday August 22 till 10am on Monday August 24 (local time – 48 hours).

The ILLW came into being in 1998 as the Scottish Northern Lights Award run by the Ayr Amateur Radio Group.
